About the Play
This play celebrated its 130th anniversary on Valentine's Day. It's a perennial favorite of theater-goers around the world—likely because, as one of my actors said, "it's like a sitcom." (And it is.) From this director's viewpoint, though, it's because we enjoy seeing the truth catch up with people. So much of our world is made up of bending the truth to make things go one way or the other…outright lying for our own benefit…or hyperbole that we tell ourselves is for the greater good. God created us for truth and we find great joy—and laughter—in seeing things set right, even if only in a work of fiction.
Finally, the management would like to plainly state that we do not advocate lying, smoking, or the writing of 3-volume novels, no matter their degree of sentimentality. With that caveat…we hope you enjoy the play!
